ADPI Organizational History
In March 2001, the County Alcohol and Drug Program Administrators Association of California (CADPAAC) voted unanimously to create the Alcohol and Drug Policy Institute (ADPI).
Today, ADPI serves as a knowledge-based entity for the purpose of acquiring and disseminating information and research to participating stakeholders and others who work within the Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) field or are affected by AOD issues. ADPI is a nonprofit public benefit corporation. The corporation is organized and operated exclusively for educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The California Secretary of State approved the Articles of Incorporation on March 21, 2002.
ADPI aims to address the scarcity of California-specific, current, and policy relevant information and research. The concept of ADPI is timely in that its formulation came as the AOD field began a national shift to performance-based measurement. Additionally, the California system experienced significant growth resulting from the implementation of two new statewide programs--CalWORKS and the Substance Abuse and Crime Prevention Act (Proposition 36). These trends triggered an increased demand for AOD services and created a need for the services and deliverables offered by ADPI.
